    • Charles Koch did his graduation and post-graduation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in chemical and nuclear engineering
    • At the age of 32, he took up the role of Chairman and CEO of Rock Island Oil Company and renamed it as Koch Industries after his father Fred Koch
    • Initially, Koch Industries was looking at oil refining but under his leadership, the company expanded. When he took over in the 1960s the company had annual revenues of $21 million but currently, Forbes estimates the total revenue of over $100 billion, a 250-fold jump in 40 years under his guidance
    • Koch expanded the company mainly through acquisitions and turned the conglomerate into the second-largest privately held business in America. He also steered it into acquiring some big companies like - Georgia Pacific in 2005 for $22 billion; Molex in 2012 for $7.2 billion; Flint Group in 2014 for $3 billion
    • Headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, Koch industries currently operates in sectors like paper, auto components, fertilizers, glass, oil refining, minerals and polymers
    • Since 2013, he has invested over $17 billion in new industries particularly in technology and startups. Some of Koch Industries' investment included in the fields of robotics, AI, big data, software, medical hardware and electronics hardware
    • Koch implemented the policy of Market Based Management (MBM) within the group, which consists of a flat organisational structure for the free flow of ideas. He authored two books The Science of Success (2007) and Good Profit (2015), where he wrote about the principles of MBM
