    • Bhagwant Mann did his BCom first year at SUS Government College in Sunam, Punjab. He began his life in the public eye as a comedian. Right from his college days, he participated in youth comedy festivals and inter-college competitions
    • He became a nationwide star in 2011 after he participated in the reality stand-up comedy series Great India Laughter Challenge
    • Though a famed comedian, he always wanted to be in politics and joined Manpreet Badal’s People’s Party of Punjab (PPP), but lost the Assembly polls from the Lehragaga constituency
    • In 2014, he left the PPP to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after the Badal-led party tied up with the Congress in Punjab. He contested the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from Sangrur and beat then Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) stalwart SS Dhindsa by a record margin of two lakh votes
    • After the poor performance of the party in the 2017 Punjab Assembly Polls, Mann hit out at AAP's central leadership over its election strategy for the state, and contrary to Arvind Kejriwal's stand, he said electronic voting machines) were not faulty
    • In 2018, Mann resigned as AAP's Punjab unit chief after Delhi Chief Minister and the party's National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal apologised to SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a defamation case
    • However, he was reappointed as AAP's Punjab chief in January 2019 and again contested from Sangrur in that year's Lok Sabha polls. He won the seat by 1.10 lakh votes defeating Congress's Kewal Singh Dhillon and was the party's only candidate who won in Punjab
    • Apart from using his wit on political platforms, he has actively taken part in multiple debates in the Lok Sabha and raised many questions on topics ranging from education, railways, rural development, civil aviation to earth sciences
    • During a Parliament session in 2016, Mann had live-streamed a video from the premises on the security arrangements. He was held guilty by a parliamentary panel and suspended for a day after the video went viral and there was uproar both inside and outside the House. He apologised for the act to the Speaker
    • He landed in a controversy in 2016 when a fellow MP, Harinder Singh Khalsa, wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to change his seat as Mann, who sat next to him, smelt of alcohol. Later, some other MPs wrote to the speaker to send him to a drug and alcohol rehab facility
    • He has been a member of several Standing Committees, including those on personnel, public grievances, law and justice, food, consumer affairs and public distribution. He has also been a member of various Consultative Committees such as the Joint Committee on Offices of Profit and Ministry of External Affairs
    • He had worked very hard for the return of Indian nationals stuck in Iraq, and even sponsored tickets for several of them
