Mardol cops book PE teacher for molesting minor student

PONDA: The Mardol police station on Monday booked a school’s physical education teacher for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old student.
In their complaint, the child’s parents stated that they approached the police as the school management failed to act on the incident after being informed of it.
The teacher is over 50 years old. The incident occurred a month ago.
“Based on the complaint, we have registered an offence against the teacher, and he will be arrested soon,” said South Goa SP Abhishek Dania.The accused was reportedly politically active some years ago.
As the school authorities were reluctant to address the issue, the student had stopped attending school, and later, her younger sister followed suit, said sources.
Police said the accused has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Goa Children’s Act and Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
“While the government tries to show they are saviours of the girl child with ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, their functionaries are involved in sexual harassments,” alleged RG’s Vishwesh Naik.
This is the third case of offences against women, and that too minors, during the past fortnight within the jurisdiction of the newly-carved-out Mardol police station.
The police had registered a case of rape against a minor on August 26 and another case of rape on August 17.
