GUWAHATI: Despite the lean phase of the industry caused by the pandemic, IIT-Guwahati clinched the highest ever package in its campus placement history on Wednesday when an MTech student got an international offer for Rs 2 crore per annum on the first day of the 2021-22 campus placement drive.
Though the institution did not reveal the exact number of students who received over Rs 1 crore per annum salary packages, a senior official of the institute said three students got domestic offers of above Rs 1.1 crore.Campus placements for the 2021-22 academic year began on a robust note when a total 200 offers were made by 38 companies in the first two sessions of Day 1 (till afternoon).
A total of 158 offers were made by 43 companies in the first two sessions of Day 1 in the last academic year (2020-21) for IT/ Software Development Engineer, Data Science, Member Technical Staff, Quant, Core Engineer, Algorithmic Trader, Hardware, Analyst, Machine Learning, Business Analyst, Product Designer, Graphic Designer and other job profiles.
IIT-Guwahati director Professor TG Sitharam said the significantly higher number of placements and packages this year is a result of the hard work of the students who have remained calm and composed even during these most uncertain times. "The nation looks up to these bright students who are ready to take up leadership roles in national and multinational companies with the unique skill-set they have developed while pursuing academics at IIT Guwahati."
