Heroin worth Rs 9.7 crore seized, 3 held in Mizoram
Aizawl: In three separate operations on Thursday, Assam Rifles recovered 1.387 kgs of heroin.
The contraband was seized at Melbuk and Zote villages, along the Mizoram-Myanmar border, as well at Champhai-Aizawl road in Champhai.
According to a press release issued by Assam Rifles on Friday, three persons have been apprehended for alleged possession and trafficking of the illegal drugs which were concealed in 112 plastic soap cases.The seizure was worth over Rs 9.7 crore.
"Based on specific inputs and deliberate planning, the operations were carried out by a team of Assam Rifles and police officials posted at Zokhawthar and Champhai town. During the three different operations, 146 grams of heroin was recovered from Melbuk, 22 grams from Zote and 1 kilo and 219 grams from Champhai-Aizawl road, wherein three smugglers, who are residents of Kahrawt and New Champhai, were nabbed during a special area domination patrol," the statement said.
The apprehended individuals have been handed over to Zokhawthar and Champhai police stations for further legal proceedings.
