KOLKATA: Siam Hossain, one of the key accused in the Bangladeshi MP murder case, who reportedly fled to Nepal after committing the crime, has been traced near the international border. The process to formally arrest him has been initiated, said CID sources.
Siam is one of the prime accused in the murder of Jhenaidah-4 MP, Anwarul Azim Anar, on May 13 at a Rajarhat flat.
The accused was instrumental in disposing of the SIM card and the body parts and of Azim.
“As of now, we do not have any access to Siam. We are not going to comment on whether he has been nabbed,” said an officer leading the investigations for CID in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, Celesty Rahman, who reportedly lured Azim into the Rajarhat flat recorded her statement in a Dhaka court.
Celesty did not admit her involvement in the murder. She stated in her testimony that she was in the Rajarhat flat on the day of the incident. Before the murder, various items, including polythene, were purchased from New Market in Kolkata.
Celesty claimed she was enquired about the reason for these purchases and was told that the quality of these items was better than those available in Bangladesh.
According to police sources, Azim came to Kolkata on May 12 and stayed at the house of his friend, Gopal Biswas, at Sinthee. The next day, Celesty asked him to visit the flat in New Town. Those present in the flat at that time included Celesty, Shimul, Jihad Howlader (the butcher who cut the body of the MP into smaller parts), Siam Hossain, Mostafizur Rahman, and Faisal Ali, among others. The mastermind, Akhtaruzzaman alias Shahin, had returned to Dhaka before the murder.

The Bangladeshi MP was suffocated with a pillow in that flat and the killers then dismembered the body to wipe out all traces.
Tanvir Bhuiyan, one of the accused, admitted in his testimony that he personally suffocated the victim with a pillow.
A police team from Dhaka had gone to Nepal last Saturday to track Siam. The team returned to Bangladesh on Thursday.
“The CID and the Detective Branch (DB) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police are collaborating on all details and the investigation has shaped up well so far,” said a senior police officer.
