LUCKNOW: Three
children of a family were crushed to death after a speeding container truck rammed several vehicles that were waiting at BHEL gate where the railway crossing was closed, in Amethi district on Friday morning.
Police said that the deceased children were identified as Adnan (11), Fatima (13), Afreen (14). They were occupants of a car.
Police said that the vehicles waited for the crossing to open,when the high-speed container truck, approaching from Lucknow, rammed into several vehicles, including a car, a small truck, a pickup truck, and an SUV.
The impact was severe, resulting in significant damage to seven vehicles. The children who died were occupants of the car, the police said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of Amethi road accident and expressed condolences to the bereaved families and directed authorities for the best possible treatment of the injured.
Superintendent of Police, Amethi, Anup Singh, said that the container truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.
"A police team has been deployed to investigate the incident and locate the driver," he said.
The deceased were residents of Natoli Para Bazaar in Baldirai, Sultanpur district.
Police and local residents quickly responded to the scene following the accident and conducted rescue operations by sending injured to the hospital in which the three children were declared brought dead.
