PATNA: The
death of a 25-year-old pregnant woman on Sunday night at a private nursing home in the Biharsharif Station Road area, Nalanda district, triggered fury amongst the victim’s family members who vandalized the medical clinic and allegedly threw off a nurse from the first floor of the building.
The nurse, Punam Kumari (35), was taken to the Biharsharif Sadar Hospital and was later shifted to a private hospital in critical condition.
While the police claimed that Kumari jumped off the building to save herself from the mob, the nurse’s husband, Jai Kumar Prasad, alleged that she was thrown off from the first floor of the nursing home.
According to the police, the pregnant woman, Gudiya Kumari, a resident of Chainpura village, had been admitted to the nursing home after a stomach ache but died while undergoing treatment. Furious over the death, angry family members and local villagers stormed inside the nursing home and vandalized it, a police officer said, adding, “Seeing the irate mob, the doctors and the staff fled.”
Gudiya’s family members told the police that Kumari administered an injection to her, after which her condition suddenly worsened, leading to her death.
