THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) is all set to announce the results of its third batch of engineering students. The varsity is most likely to announce the BTech results in the first week of August.
Ever since its inception, KTU has been sticking to the academic schedule without fail as it declared the results of the first two batches of students within four years.
Around 25,000 students have appeared for the final semester examinations, which got concluded in the second week of July and the tabulation works at the university end is currently in the last phase. Considering a pandemic situation, the varsity has been conducting the final semester examinations online for the past two years.
“We cannot take risks in the case of final semester students who have either got campus placement or are planning to join other institutions for higher studies. That’s why KTU conducts online examination for final semester students,” university pro vice-chancellor S Ayoob said.
Meanwhile, the varsity authorities expect that the engineering admission trend in the state would continue to buck the national trend. After the steady downward trend for a few years, engineering admission in the state has been witnessing an upward trend for the past couple of years. But still, over 40% of BTech seats in engineering colleges in the state remain vacant. There are around 47,000 BTech seats in engineering colleges affiliated with KTU.
Admission trend in the last year shows that more students are inclined to join hybrid engineering courses that combine traditional engineering courses with new age technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The highest number of vacant seats are in traditional branches such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, etc.
