NEW DELHI: Anumula Revanth Reddy was on Thursday sworn in as the chief minister of Telangana, marking a historic moment as the first Congress CM of the youngest state in India. Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu also took the oath as the deputy CM of the state, established in 2014.
Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath of office to him at the expansive Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Hyderabad.Governor Soundarajan also officiated the oath of office for Gaddam Prasad Kumar, who assumed the role of Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
12 MLAs took oath as ministers in a fresh cabinet in Telangana along with Reddy. Nalamada Uttam Kumar Reddy, C Damodar Rajanarsimha, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Duddilia Sridhar Babu, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Poonam Prabhakar, Konda Surekha, D Anasuya Seethakka, Tunmala Nageswara Rao, Jupally Krishna Rao also took oath.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who arrived in Hyderabad earlier in the morning. Party leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi were also present on the stage.
Notable guests from other states, such as Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and deputy CM DK Shivakumar, also attended the occasion in Hyderabad. Ahead of the ceremony, DK Shivakumar expressed the commitment to implement the promised guarantees, stating, "We are committed to whatever we have spoken."
Outside Hyderabad's LB Stadium, folk artists added to the festive atmosphere with performances ahead of Revanth Reddy's oath-taking ceremony as the Chief Minister of Telangana.
