With the lockdown imposed because of the Coronavirus outbreak, new film releases across industries have been postponed. Several filmmakers have been opting for direct digital releases, and the makers of
Jyothika's '
Ponmagal Vanthal' planning to release the film directly on an OTT platform has stirred up various debates among theater owners and producers. Meanwhile, amidst these online debates about 'Ponmagal Vanthal', another
Tamil film has already released directly on an OTT platform.
And it is none other than
Vaibhav Reddy’s ‘RK Nagar’.
'RK Nagar' starring Vaibhav Reddy and Sana Althaf was struggling for a theatrical release for more than a year, and the film was expected to be released last December. But it was released directly on an OTT platform and it was taken down almost after six hours due to some misunderstandings. Now, 'RK Nagar', which is produced by Badri Kasthuri and V Rajalakshmi, is again released on the OTT platform, and reportedly it is the second Tamil film to release directly on the OTT platform after 'Sometimes', which was directed by
Priyadarshan.
Jyotika's 'Ponmagal Vanthal', which is produced by
Suriya's 2D Entertainment is expected to have its digital premiere soon, and it's been a hot debate for the past few days. Also, the makers of few long-delayed films are planning to release their films directly on OTT platforms too.
