Cops file chargesheet against Ali and Umar in Umesh Pal murder case

PRAYAGRAJ: The Prayagraj police on Monday filed its fourth chargesheet in the killing of lawyer Umesh Pal and two of his police gunners.
The 200 plus page charge sheet was filed against Mohammad Umar and Ali Ahmed alias Ali, sons of slain gangster turned politician Atiq Ahmed with the claim that both were involved in the conspiracy of the killing of Umesh Pal.
Pointedly, city cops had on April 16, 2024 listed slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed’s sons Mohammad Umar and Ali Ahmed alias Ali as history sheeters with the Khuldabad police station of Prayagraj district on numbers ‘48B’ and ‘57B’ respectively.
DCP ( City) Deepak Bhuker told TOI that Dhoomanganj police have filed its fourth Chargesheet against Mohd Umar and Ali Ahmed, sons of slain mafia turned politician Atiq Ahmed in connection with lawyer Umesh Pal and two of his gunners killing case.
He, however, said that while Atiq’s eldest son Umar was lodged at Lucknow jail after he surrendered before the Lucknow CBI court in 2022 in connection with the abduction and assault on a Lucknow-based realtor at Deoria jail, Atiq’s second eldest son Ali too had surrendered before the court in Prayagraj for allegedly assaulting and demanding extortion from a local property dealer in 2022. Ali is currently lodged at Naini Central Jail.
While Umar has three cases registered against him, 11 cases are pending against Ali.
It may be recalled that lawyer Umesh Pal and two of his police gunners were allegedly shot dead by a group of assailants outside his house at the Sulemsarai area under the limits of Dhoomanganj police station on February 24, 2023.
Cops, meanwhile, said that the first chargesheet in the murder of lawyer Umesh Pal and his two police gunners was filed by Dhoomanganj police against Sadaqat Khan, naming him as a conspirator, at a local court in Prayagraj in May 2023.
The first charge sheet included a total of 1,857 pages (including attachments) against Sadaqat Khan in connection with the case registered under section 147, 148, 149, 302, 307, 506, 34 and 120B of IPC, section 3 of Explosive Act, 7 CLA Act and 3 (2) V SC/ST Act”.
The fact was that the Dhoomanganj police had added section 3 (2)V of the SC/ST Act on May 23, 2023, in the FIR (no. 114/2023) related to the Umesh Pal murder case.
The second 1,979 pages charge sheet was filed on June 17, 2023 against eight persons while the third charge sheet was filed in October 2023.
