Stop politicising Manipur violence, govt making efforts: PM Modi to Congress
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday spoke on the ongoing Manipur violence in the Rajya Sabha and said that his government was making all efforts to bring normalcy in the state and that the incidents of violence were on decline.
PM Modi said that Congress needs to 'stop politicising' the violence taking place in Manipur. "Stop politicising Manipur issue, one day Manipur will reject you," he said, adding that they were trying their best to bring peace in Manipur and asked everyone to cooperate.

"Today, schools, colleges, offices and other institutions are open in the state. The Central and the State govt are talking to all stakeholders to restore peace," he said, criticisng Congress for its handling of similar situations in the past, mentioning the imposition of President's rule multiple times.
"The Union home minister stayed there for many weeks. Central govt is extending all cooperation to Manipur to tackle the ongoing flood situation in the state. Today, two teams of NDRF have reached Manipur. I warn those who are trying to add the fuel to fire will be rejected by Manipur. Congress had imposed President's rule in Manipur 10 times," he said.
He called for cooperation from opposition leaders to bring stability back to the region. "Leaving behind politics, we should cooperate to restore peace in Manipur," he said.
Tensions in Manipur have been ongoing since May 3 last year, following clashes during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) in protest against the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.
