Reuben Young
Reuben Young (Democratic Party) was a judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. He assumed office in 2019. He left office on December 31, 2020.
Young (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. He lost in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Young was a special superior court judge for the North Carolina Superior Courts from 2012 to 2017. He was appointed to this position by Governor Bev Perdue on December 31, 2012.[1][2] He served until December 2017, when he transitioned to the role of North Carolina’s interim prison chief.[3]
Bildung
Young received his undergraduate degree from Howard University and his J.D. from the North Carolina Central University School of Law.[1]
Career
Young started his law career in Texas, working as a prosecutor, assistant attorney general and private practice attorney there from 1987 to 1995. After moving to North Carolina, he worked for the state's Department of Justice, representing the Department of Public Safety for six years. Young then joined the Office of the Governor as deputy legal counsel and later as chief legal counsel. He worked as secretary of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety prior to becoming a special judge in 2013.[1]
