Bike Parking in the Right of Way

Bicycle parking is an important element to Denver’s mobility system. Providing parking for bicycles near employment, retail, and other destinations ensures equitable options for multimodal transportation. Adequate bicycle parking is good for business, increases ridership, offers an alternative to driving, and decreases the demand for automobile parking.

Bike Parking Applications — Property Owners and Businesses

Applications for city-funded bicycle parking are reviewed throughout the year as they are received.  Property owners and businesses are encouraged to apply at any time in order to receive bicycle parking that can benefit their community and establishment.

Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is also pleased to accept applications for non City-funded bike parking at any time.  Any business can apply to procure and install bike parking on their own.  Learn more about the application process in the information menus below.

Bicycle Parking Application

The Bike Parking Program creates a streamlined process to apply for bike parking in the public right-of-way, provides new options for both on-the-sidewalk inverted u-racks and in-the-parking lane bike corrals, and updates design standards for both bike parking types.

The Program can also provide city funding for bicycle parking, for those applications that meet the highest demand for bike parking as part of Denver’s transportation system. These applications are reviewed year-round.

If you have an identified need for bike parking in the public right-of-way and would like to apply for a rack or bicycle corral, please complete this application(PDF, 644KB) and send it to [email protected].

While anyone can apply and pay for the bicycle parking facility, the permit holder must be the adjacent property owner. Thus, if the application is submitted by someone other than the adjacent property owner, the property owner's information must be included in the application.

Bike Parking on Private Property

If property owners want to install a bike rack on their existing property, they are able to do so at their discretion. However, the City would encourage property owners to select a rack of functional design and place it in a location visible to the entrance.

Any new development must comply with the bicycle parking regulations in the new zoning code (see Article 10).

RTD Bike-n-Ride

Combining bikes with transit makes it even easier to get around!  RTD allows bikes on the bus and light rail system and provides facilities at stations to secure bikes.  It's a healthy, economical and environmentally friendly way to commute to work, school or recreational activities.

Bicycle Parking: Lockers

Bicycle lockers are encouraged for use by employees and bicycle commuters to offer a secure facility in which to park a bicycle.  RTD provides bicycle parking at certain transit station areas, and other private entities provide bicycle lockers for assigned use.
