Educational and Developmental Intervention Services

Services Offered

Fort Jackson Educational and Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS) provides services pursuant to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Public Law 102-119, which applied the provisions of IDEA to the Department of Defense (DoD) to provide services to children in accordance with Department of Defense Instructions (DODI) 1342-12.

EDIS supports eligible command-sponsored families of children with developmental delays, disabilities, or special learning needs who live on base. The EDIS program is located next to MAHC at Bldg. 4500, Rooms 8-29 & 8-32, and is staffed by a dedicated team of qualified, licensed and trained Speech-Language Pathologist and an Early Childhood Special Educator who provide:

Developmental screenings and assessments

Family training, consultation and home visits

Consultation to child care and home care providers

Referral to and Coordination of other services families may need

All services are provided on a voluntary basis and at no direct cost to the family.

Where are services provided?

EDIS services are based on a partnership between the family and an EDIS primary provider; so that education and support is provided to meet their child’s special needs in their natural environment.

Services are offered in places where the child spends most of his/her day, which include visits to the home and/or daycare.  

Who is eligible for EDIS?

The ARMY EDIS provides early intervention services to military families who:

 a)  Have a child who is less than 3 years of age and has developmental delay or a medical or biological condition that places the child at high risk for developmental delay, and

 b)  Sponsor is active duty military

 c)  live on a military installation that is served by DoD schools.
