Congratulations are in order for our very own co-artistic director, Lear deBessonet! It was announced yesterday that Lear deBessonet would be joining the Lincoln Center Theater as their new artistic director! 🎉🎭 “From the moment I first stepped onto the campus at Lincoln Center, I felt a sense of awe and magic. From thrilling, important new plays and new musicals to exquisite revivals and revelatory explorations of the classics, I have experienced LCT as a place where intellectual rigor can live alongside wonder, imagination, and beauty,” says Lear. DeBessonet's appointment marks her first work with LCT, and follows a tenure as artistic director of New York City Center Encores! While leading that company, two Encores! productions have transferred to Broadway, both directed by deBessonet: Into the Woods and Once Upon a Mattress, the latter currently running at the Hudson Theatre. We couldn’t be prouder! 💜 Read the full announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gD_bJ9Ri #ArtsForEveryBody #NewYorkCity #LincolnCenter #Theatre #LeardeBessonet

On September 18th NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development is hosting The Art and Science of Social Connection, a symposium will explore the power of art to foster social connection and lessen loneliness and isolation (Vivek Murthy 👀 ). Join us for a day of inspiring discussions, featuring opening remarks from world-renowned soprano and WHO Arts & Health Ambassador Renée Fleming and a keynote by Dr. Jeremy Nobel of #ProjectUnLonely, on addressing loneliness through creative expression. The event includes a roundtable with leaders in arts and health, including our own Jill Sonke, followed by an interdisciplinary panel discussing the intersections of art and science, introduced by NYU President, Linda Mills. This event is part of the United Nations General Assembly Healing Arts Week, which is produced by the Jameel Arts & Health Lab in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). “This symposium will illuminate how artistic expression can motivate individuals and communities to participate more fully in their own health and wellbeing and support social cohesion, which offers powerful protection against stress and its effects," says Nisha Sajnani, director of the Steinhardt Drama Therapy program and co-director of the Jameel Arts & Health Lab. Racial Equity = Health Equity There's truly No Place Like the Town, and Edutainment 4 Equity no doubt showed us this on July 27th! The community met at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza to celebrate the intersection of arts and health and the powerful role of the arts in promoting social justice. The team’s “Exhibit A” exhibition showcased local artists' work and shed light on the systemic racism in the city. From music performances on the main stage to local vendors at the Makers' Fair, No Place Like the Town embodied the essence and significance of unity in Oakland's Black community. "It's the art making that helps makes us healthy." 👌🏾 Keep up the good work, Oakland! 👏🏿 #ArtsForEveryBody #ONOP2024 #ArtsinHealth #ArtsinHealthResearch #Art #Health #NoPlaceLiketheTown #Oakland

Each week we will be spotlighting one of the stellar #ArtsForEveryBody projects! Starting with none other than Oakland, California! The “No Place like the Town” event was not just a tribute to the rich history of black culture, arts and health, but a call to action. It was brought to life by Edutainment For Equity , an organization dedicated to fostering equity, anti-racism, and youth development through innovative approaches. 💪🏿💪🏾💪🏽 On July 27th, the community gathered at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza 📍for an interactive art exhibit and public discussion. Partnering with the Department of Race and Equity Oakland and other local partners, Edutainment for Equity showcased “Exhibit A,” an exhibition focused on institutional anti-Blackness in Oakland, raising the question, “Is Oakland Anti-Black?'” The exhibit featured original songs, short films, photos, and other media depicting the city's future created by a group of artists. 🤝🏾 Alongside the “Exhibit A” experience, Oakland’s event included an arts, health & wellness fair, local vendors, live music, and performances by well-known Oakland artists. World-renowned poet Marc Bamuthi Joseph delivered a poem stressing the importance of voting, further highlighting the community's active role in the event. The official DJ of The Golden State Warriors, DJ D Sharp , spun a live mix, setting a musical backdrop for the event. Local artists also took the stage to show their talents and unite their community through the shared love of the arts. 🎤🗳️🎨 No Place Like the Town was not only an art celebration but a powerful testament to Oakland's resilience and creativity. Way to go, Oakland team! Stay tuned for more from #ArtsForEveryBody Oakland! 👀 📸: Bethanie Hines #ArtsForEveryBody #ONOP2024 #ArtsinHealth #ArtsinHealthResearch #Art #Health #NoPlaceLiketheTown #Oakland
