Senior Product Designer for 10+ Years 👴🏼 Founder @ Bitesize UX

"You guys have it so easy, back in my day, we had to..." 👴🏼🙄 ...but for real, when I started in UX (not *that* long ago), it wasn't easy to build a functional, interactive, smooooooth prototype. It took more resourcefulness, more time, more tools, more duct tape. I learned front end code to prototype basic sites and apps. I remember making animations in Keynote - and being pretty stoked about them. I'm definitely not reminiscing on these as the "good ole' days" - but I think I have an appreciation for how far things have come. No Code, Low Code, and prototyping tools are infinitely better now. As designers, we can create amazing, dynamic, interactive experiences - fast. Prototyping is by far my favorite area of UX design. It was my specialty as a freelancer, and I got hired to do it a lot. I love making stuff that moves and works, and I love teaching it - especially seeing designer's faces when it clicks that you can take any idea, animation, interaction....and actually build it. I put it all into our upcoming class, Next Level UI Prototyping & Animation. We've got two cohorts coming up, and they're open for applications! Our last cohort in February was so much fun, and student projects on demo day were outstanding. If you want to build some in-demand skills, create a sweet new project, and level up your UX/UI career, join us!

I’m really excited to announce the winner of our Netflix Research Challenge! A few weeks ago, we launched an exciting challenge to test your UX Research chops with a highly realistic (but, not Netflix-affiliated) research brief. “Taking on the hypothetical role of UX researcher for Netflix, you’ve been tasked with learning more about how partners, couples, and people sharing a TV or living space make decisions about what movies or series to watch together.” To everyone who submitted work - I truly appreciate the time, attention, effort, and level of detail that you put into your projects. These projects have the makings of excellent portfolio pieces and case studies, and we encourage you to use them to highlight your design skills! (drumroll please) 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁 After much deliberation, based on criteria of solution completeness, execution, and presentation, we are thrilled to announce Irene Geller as the winner of the Netflix UX Research challenge! Below is a quote from our judges to highlight some aspects of Irene’s submission that stood out us! “Ultimately, Irene’s plan incorporated a detailed plan for observing the shared decision-making process, which I initially thought was the key piece to understanding the process of finding something to watch. While there were other plans that included an observation method, Irene’s was among the most thorough. It was supported by other methods outlined, including a detailed recruitment process and initial qualitative interviews. I think Irene’s plan would produce some really interesting insights related to the questions and goals outlined in the brief.” Congratulations, Irene!!! We also want to extend our congratulations to the designers and researchers who made it into our final round, and submitted truly exceptional work. Anshy Ansen Khushali Parekh Carolina Caropese Gabrielle Cohen Kelsang Dolma Preeti Anubolu Karunia Wahyuni Staci Chan Jiajing (Lexi) Zhang Thank you to all who participated. Your enthusiasm and talent have made this challenge a lot of fun, and we can’t wait to see more of your work in future contests 😊 💫 Let's Keep the Ideas Flowing! We're already cooking up our next contest, and we'd love to hear your ideas! What challenges would you like to tackle? What prizes would get your creative gears turning? Drop us a comment or send a message!

My face when I won the raffle for a free year of Proto.io 😮 After winning a free “Don’t Do Drugs” T-shirt in the 6th grade, this is the second time I’ve ever won anything in a raffle 🤣. I recently joined Bitesize UX’s free community and have been going to their free workshops, and studying their free resources. I went to their UI Animation for Beginners workshop yesterday and it was super informative and helpful! They’ve been a huge help to me during my job search process, and I highly recommend people to check them out! Thank you Bitesize UX and Joe Formica for an awesome time yesterday!

Check out the challenges I overcame while designing an advanced prototype for Quizzie, a vocabulary learning app: https://lnkd.in/eJ_VrC9c 🧠📝 Real talk: I 💜 Figma, but its #prototyping capabilities are... not the most robust. For now, at least! That’s why I took Joe Formica’s Bitesize UX course on UI Prototyping & Animation this past March, so I could learn how to use Proto.io which features advanced prototyping capabilities. As with all of Joe's courses, I had a ton of fun and learned so much in a short period of time! I found Proto.io really easy to use once I got the basics down. As I mention in my blog, I would love it if their team implemented more sizing and placement guides in the designing modes (like being able to check the pixel distance between elements) as well as the screen transition timeline (adding an "aiming line" to the playhead, as well as stickiness/placement guidance to get more accurate alignment of animations in the timeline). But overall it's an awesome tool and I look forward to using it often! 💭 Do you have feedback for my prototype? Questions on Proto.io or Bitesize? Drop a comment below :) PROTOIO INC

    • Two generic smartphone mockups displaying the title screen and main menu from Quizzie, a fictional vocabulary learning app. The main menu shows a Lighting Round card with a 3D lightning bolt icon, and a counter displaying "0 words studied" and a Start Quiz button.
