The Blind Children’s Center (BCC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1938 by Southern California Delta Gammas. BCC is the only program of its kind in Los Angeles for children from birth to five years-old who are blind or visually impaired. We combine early intervention, early childhood education, and comprehensive family support services to prepare infants, toddlers, and preschoolers of all abilities to thrive. Our center-based programs bring children with vision loss, autism, disabilities, and/or complex medical conditions, together with their typically developing peers to create inclusive environments where all children can experience belonging and reach their fullest potential. Children with severe vision loss and other disabilities learn differently and require specialized services and individualized curriculum. At the same time, parents/caregivers need tools, knowledge, and support so they can foster their child’s healthy social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. BCC’s programs provide comprehensive education, health, mental health, and nutrition services, as well as coordinated therapeutic services, including sensory development, orientation and mobility, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech/language development, and braille pre-literacy skills. We had the honor to welcome Delta Gamma (DG) Hope Serving Ambassadors from June 10-14 for a week of service! ⚓ Hope Serving is a service-learning experience that offers Delta Gammas the opportunity to develop as leaders on a local, regional and international level and encourages learning and critical thinking through hands-on service, community involvement, and civic and social justice education. During their time at BCC, DG ambassadors had the opportunity to: ✅ Learn about our history and services we provide! ✅ Meet some of our incredible Delta Gamma Board members for a Q&A! ✅ Learn different types of vision diagnosis and techniques on how to guide someone who is blind or visually impaired! ✅ Learn how adaptations are incorporated in the classroom to ensure our blind or visually impaired students meet curriculum! ✅ Meet BCC Parents and Alumni! ✅ Experience a "Blind" Lunch! ✅ Visit our Infant Program, Early Head Start and Head Start socializations! ✅ Make over 40 tactile frames for our new classrooms! And SO much more! 🎊 We are so grateful for their commitment to learning more about our community and the families we serve. 👏 💙 🧡 💛 ❤️ Sarah Orth, M.P.A.
