This past June, I visited Blue Ocean Mariculture in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i, to learn about the only offshore fish farm in the U.S. I spent the week with Sarid Ditton and Staci Lovell, who coordinated the week-long visit and introduced me to every facet of their incredible operation. Blue Ocean Mariculture exemplifies what's possible in Hawaiian waters with proper legislation, community engagement, and cooperating bodies across the Big Island. There's a reason they're a leader in the offshore and species development niches of aquaculture, and I can only hope to do their truly awesome practices justice with content to come. See my first of four videos about Blue Ocean Mariculture's end-to-end kanpachi aquaculture below! This summer, I'll be diving into more specifics with episodes to come, along with a more detailed article for you all. Please note that LinkedIn compresses videos. See the original, full quality posts here: Posted to TikTok: https://lnkd.in/evNUAWDv Posted to Instagram: https://lnkd.in/eqA-EEmg For the first time, I brought along help for this Sibley Media trip. Heatherann Sibley joined me in Hawai'i (not a tough sell) so that she could learn about our industry and it's close linkage with environmental science. She's also got a knack for videography, which is helping me include myself in my own videos more and get unique content I otherwise couldn't do alone. This post is just to introduce my audiences to Blue Ocean Mariculture, so if you're intrigued, shoot me a message as I'd love to hear your input for future videos. Thanks again to Blue Ocean Mariculture for making this happen! Inarguably one of the most fascinating and eye-opening weeks of my life. 🐟 • • • #seafood #aquaculture #kanpachi #blueoceanmariculture #kailuakona #kona #hawaii #hawaiiankanpachi #offshoreaquaculture #usaquaculture #videocontent #aquacultureeducation
