Brimstone

This is big. Brimstone was selected for a transformational $189 million investment by U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Industrial Demonstration Program. No one knows more about decarbonizing our economy, or about what it will take to achieve global impact than DOE. By backing Brimstone’s commercial demonstration plant, the DOE has offered jet fuel to accelerate our scale-up and path to market. Since Day One, we’ve believed that decarbonizing cement requires developing a product identical to the industry-standard portland cement that builders everywhere know and trust. The process would need to be extremely low-carbon, and cost-competitive at full scale. DOE’s investment in Brimstone is a powerful validation of this approach and our work. After a highly competitive process, we’re thrilled to be among the 33 companies chosen to be part of the largest industrial decarbonization effort in U.S. history, one that will create clean jobs, transform sectors, and help spur an American-led clean industrial revolution. Nothing like a sweltering summer to motivate climate action! ☀ Our VP of Policy and Public Affairs Simon G. Brandler recently attended a White House convening of leaders dedicated to decarbonizing the cement and concrete sector. The White House is taking the show on the road with a series of regional events on low-carbon concrete with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), RMI, NRMCA Group and many others. Next stop: Los Angeles on Aug 27. Our very own Gabriel Gonzalez will be there with other West Coast leaders talking about new solutions and how to advance the clean industrial revolution. Our cofounder Hugo Leandri was delighted to accept the WORLD MATERIALS FORUM's Scale Up award in France on behalf of Brimstone 🏆 Each year, WMF recognizes businesses that have a sizable impact on the use of materials (smarter, less, and longer) and a demonstrated breakthrough with new materials or new processes. We are honored to be chosen by an expert jury for opening a critical pathway to decarbonize the cement industry. Honored to be recognized by the World Economic Forum First Movers Coalition. Heating limestone accounts for 60% of cement’s carbon emissions. Our process replaces limestone with carbon-free calcium silicate rocks. Different process and materials, same final product – ordinary portland cement. 

Our CEO Cody Finke, Ph.D. had an incredible week at #BESummit24 in London presenting on decarbonizing heavy industry and the future of net zero construction. He got to catch up with fellow concrete decarbonizer Robert Niven, CEO of CarbonCure Technologies. Prince William, who created the The Earthshot Prize, called attention to the pivotal role of innovators and entrepreneurs in tackling climate change. And Bill Gates reflected that the clean industrial revolution is here. Brimstone is proud to be part of it!
