🎥 https://lnkd.in/eqZTkjBy I’m excited to share that I’m part of our latest DX customer success story video (a mum, am on TV moment 😆)!  Our engineering leaders and I discussed how DX (getDX.com) has influenced how we manage and empower our teams at GfK - An NIQ Company. The DX engineering survey tool has made a real difference in two critical engineering aspects that I am passionate about: - Empowering Engineers: DX has helped our engineers pinpoint issues and boost productivity. - Data-Backed Leadership: DX continues to give me clear insights into team health so I can tackle challenges with solid data. Thanks, DX (Erinn Schaal | Brook Perry | Greyson Junggren), for helping us transform our metrics, enhance our understanding of the #DeveloperExperience, and support a bottom-up approach rooted in #ServantLeadership principles. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eqZTkjBy

When I first met with the John Lewis team two years ago, they were looking for a way to understand developer experience and how to improve as an engineering organization. Now, DX is used by every engineer, team, and leader; and Michelle Fitzgerald, Rob Hornby, and Howard Newell have spearheaded incredible improvements to issues like build times, requirements quality, deep work, and the engineering onboarding process. Really proud to see everything their team has accomplished to date. We love supporting this group.

💡 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮-𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗗𝗛𝗟 When I joined DHL eCommerce Nederland just over two years ago, I became part of an organization that experienced significant growth in its digital capabilities during the COVID years, expanding from 20 to 86 engineers. As a newcomer, I talked to as many people as possible to understand the organization better. Through these conversations, people shared numerous stories and concerns that were not only technical but also organizational, process-related, and cultural. Determined to address these challenges, I began exploring potential solutions. Although engaging with everyone regularly would be both social and enjoyable, it wasn’t feasible and could introduce bias. Having read "Accelerate" and noting the rise of SaaS platforms facilitating DORA metrics tracking, I considered this approach. However, DORA focuses on DevOps performance and doesn’t systematically capture the other aspects of engineering team performance. It provides outcomes like deployment frequency, but the underlying causes need further exploration. The SPACE framework, introduced later, addressed this gap. It offers a comprehensive assessment of team productivity across five dimensions, including satisfaction, wellbeing, communication, and collaboration, in addition to what DORA covers. By chance, I saw a LinkedIn post by Gergely Orosz about DX, which immediately caught my attention. After researching and speaking with Greyson Junggren, I was convinced. Co-created by part of the same research team behind DORA and SPACE, and not requiring any technical integrations, DX was perfect for a trial. We conducted our first survey in July 2022, just two months after I started at DHL. With an initial response rate of 92% (out of 86 engineers), the results were remarkable. They reflected the concerns I had heard and what the leadership team observed, all in a structured and insightful manner. Since then, we’ve been using DX and running quarterly surveys across our growing engineering team, which now numbers around 140 engineers, achieving a 99% response rate in recent quarters. While having all this data is valuable, real change happens when you act on the results. What we've been doing with the results is a different story on its own, which I'll come to in a different post. For now, I can wholeheartedly say that DX has been the most valuable investment we've made in driving engineering and cultural excellence at DHL eCommerce BNL. #dora #space #developerexperience #dx #engineering #culture

Seven circuits around the sun with Intercom! This last year has been pretty fun with my awesome team - we've cut our CI costs by 30% and improved speeds by 25% (yes, both); we've fully launched our move to Local Developer Environments for engineers; I've had some great interviews with DX and The New Stack about the Developer Experience Program that I run here; and on a personal level, I've been getting outdoors a lot and recording some hikes! Y8, let's be having ya.

ICYMI: This was a great discussion on how Twilio, DoorDash, and TrueLayer are measuring engineering productivity. Listen to the recording to hear about the challenges these companies have experienced with metrics, what types of metrics they use today, and what they're getting the most value from.

I really enjoyed participating in the LeadDev panel on "Measuring Developer Productivity with DORA, SPACE, or DevEx." It was a privilege to share insights and learn alongside Dominique Simoneau-Ritchie, Maryanna Rayko, Abi Noda, and Adam Rogal. A big thank you to LeadDev and DX for organizing this event and creating a platform for discussions like this. https://lnkd.in/gDQzYT5S

    Engineering Effectiveness Director at Tesco

We've just published the first Tesco Voice of the Developer report summarising the insight and actions gleaned from our inaugural DevEx360 snapshot of 2,000 developers with DX. Over 240 of our teams have identified local action they can take to improve and our platform, tooling and capability teams have been busy digging into the results, doing further user research and incorporating findings into their OKRs. And we'll repeat it all again next month! If you are motivated to make software engineering at scale easier then we are #hiring in my teams in engineering and leadership positions and we'd love to speak with you! Establish a DevProd team too early and you risk wasting resources. Establish one too late and you may face a pile-up of issues to dig out of. Figuring out when to establish a dedicated DevProd team is a tricky problem. We studied 20 companies to learn about when they established their DevProd teams, what influenced their timing, and whether their timing was optimal:

When should you establish a Developer Productivity team?
