The Midwest is a growing hub in games.
If that seems funny to you, I hope you spend some time researching more.
Simply put, Madison, WI is a Live Service hub in games. Studios focused on Call of Duty, Apex Legends, PUBG, Diablo IV, New World, Elder Scrolls Online, and Disney Heroes are right here.
There are many more outside of the Live Services space too.
Not to mention that there are folks from Epic Games, Second Dinner, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Unity, Nintendo, Take-Two Interactive, and others that either live their remotely or have satellite offices in the area.
That isn't even mentioning Illinois (specifically Chicago), with a larger volume of studios and in the top 10 for economic impact in the US in games.
Plus, the huge collection of remote workers in each of these states working across the industry. They are one call away from working for someone more locally, if even more comes here.
Why is there so much movement now?
- Strong STEM programs in the academic systems with strong public education and top global Universities within the region
- A lot of the industry talent is from this area, but had to move previously and now have returned home during and post-covid
- Higher quality of life and lower cost of living in the region compared to existing hubs in games in the US
- LARGE investment ($Billions combined) by outside companies, like Microsoft, Electronic Arts (EA), KRAFTON Inc., and others into Wisconsin and the overall Midwest region
- A legacy of global brands and success in the region, from Dungeons & Dragons to Midway Games to Bungie that's remnants still exist
The games industry IS in the Midwest. There ARE opportunities.
...and they are growing by the month.
We still need your support though. We need more investors in the ecosystem and support services that will help elevate this industry.
Do you support growing a larger hub right here? How can I help you?

🔊 🔊 GRAND RAPIDS 🔊 🔊 We've got our guy Belvin Liles III of ID Ventures (formerly Invest Detroit) coming through Start Garden next week (5/22) a fireside chat that will hit on all things startup fundraising (venture or otherwise). You'll hear about his own story and how he moved from commercial banking to VC. And you'll get some of his own thoughts about the state of our statewide start ecosystem.
ID Ventures has invested more than $31,000,000 in more than 200 Michigan startups (54% diverse founders) since 2009. Largely funded through the state and philanthropy, ID Ventures has been the first stop for founders raising funds in Michigan for 15 years.
The snacks, refreshments, and networking will all be plentiful. And the vibes - they'll be impeccable. Come through and let's keep building these cross state connections.
