I met Fred (name changed to protect privacy) at SAMMinistries' Emergency Shelter. He was one of the 22 households displaced by the fire at the Hudson apartment community. Fred's soft-spoken, driven nature took me aback. He had been through a lot in just a short period, but that was only a setback in his journey towards independence. Above all, he was planning his future. He talked about his struggle to obtain lost documents (like social security information) required for employment. That hadn't stopped him from working, but he knew that to get the career he wanted, he needed those documents. I was so proud that our organization was able to help him acquire his documentation quickly and that our expert case management team was ready to connect him with new opportunities for growth. If you feel led, you can donate money to SAMMinistries to provide the vital support it requires to help individuals like Fred daily. Together, we can overcome homelessness and create a more equitable future for our community. Cheers. 🤝 Donation Link: https://lnkd.in/gHwE7EFT

To continue our Homeless Service Hero Honoree spotlights, today we are recognizing Chris Perez, a street outreach worker with SAMMinistries. Chris’s nominee said, “in many eyes he has become an unsung hero who navigates the pathways of urban adversity with an unwavering determination. Each step resonates with a silent vow to be the voice of the voiceless, the advocate of the downtrodden. From blankets to warm meals, from referrals to shelters, to connections with mental health services - Chris and his team offer a lifeline amidst the torrents of adversity.” Thank you, Chris, for pouring your heart into your work, it has made a tremendous impact on our unhoused neighbors! #CloseToHomeSA #community #endhomelessness #sanantonio #bexarcounty #homelessnessawareness #unhousedneighborsstillourneighbors #homelessresponsesa
