The members of Antioch Church in Bend, Oregon, were eager to welcome refugees to their community with open arms. The Welcome Corps provided a path and support to help. As a private sponsor group, the church members provided safety and stability in the U.S. for a family forced to flee their home in Colombia. Facing relentless threats by an illegal paramilitary group, the family of five left their home and belongings behind in search of a new beginning. Finally, Maria, the mother of the family said it “felt like we were being received by a group of angels” when they met their sponsors at the airport. Learn how you can work with your friends and neighbors to help refugees and make an impact by visiting WelcomeCorps.org today!  🔗 https://welcomecorps.org/

This story is such an amazing example of what we have to offer as welcomers and the pride we have--and sacrifices our military makes--in offering it. Thank you Jennifer Griffin and Fox News Media, it's a beautiful story--I got choked up too!: https://lnkd.in/eqdY6i_K I love how these kids--as middle schoolers!--describe what it means to find the freedom, safety, and opportunity they've found in America. And I love that they are already thinking about all they ways they want to give back. Artem, Farhan, Yosra, Babur--we are so happy you are here, and so lucky to have you as new Americans!

As an active member of Rotary International, Heather Stoa recognized an opportunity to make a life-changing impact in her community through sponsorship. With support from her club, their community sponsored five newcomers from Ukraine. Heather and the Rotary club welcomed two single mothers and their children to Decatur, Illinois, in March. “We are creating hope. We’re working on peace. We’re helping people have a future,” she said. Newcomers Tetiana and Alina met in Germany after fleeing with their families during the war, and they bonded over their struggles adjusting. The two mothers were determined to rebuild their lives in the United States together. That’s when they discovered Welcome Connect and matched with Heather and her incredible community through Rotary International. Read their inspiring story → https://lnkd.in/eke2Wyi4
