A new sofa is a big investment, so finding a good deal can save you a lot of money.
As well as picking the right sofa for your space, you'll also want to get a great deal on the most comfortable, highest-quality and longest-wearing sofa you can afford.
That's why, every month, we search popular stores online to bring you this round-up of the best sofa sales.
Be inspired to make home improvements. Sign up for our Home newsletter – it's free monthly.
We’ve already found your favourite sofa brands on the market. In our July 2023 survey of sofa brands, we asked over 4,000 of our members to rate their sofas on factors including comfort, durability and quality.
All the sales we recommend here are from brands that did reasonably well in our survey, but you'll have to visit our best sofa shops page to find out which ones came out top.
Sale dates: Ongoing
We like: Affordable prices
We don’t like: The designs tend towards simplicity and neutral colours, which some may find dull.
It’s not technically a sale, but Ikea has slashed prices on thousands of products across its website, including its sofas.
Ikea is known for its Scandi-style designs, so if you are looking for a statement piece, this might not be the place for you.
However, if you’re looking for a simple, everyday sofa, this is a good place to start. You can pick up a three-seater for around £500.
To see how Ikea and other major brands performed in our survey of sofa owners, see our best sofa shops page.
Sales dates: 21 May to 12 June
We like: The large range of sofas on sale
We don’t like: The best deals are only available on the most expensive sofas
M&S is running a Spend & Save sale until mid-June.
You can save 15% when you spend £750, 20% when you spend £1,500, and 25% when you spend £2,500.
Its three-seater sofas normally start from around £800, so you can pick up a discount on even its cheaper items. However, the largest savings are only for the more expensive sofas – you'll get more out of this sale if you're looking for an investment piece.
The sofas on sale are all made to order, so delivery time is around six weeks.
Sale dates: Ongoing
We like: Huge savings – some sofas are more than 50% off
We don’t like: Offers are only for ex-display sofas and discontinued ranges
Ercol is an outlet store that has huge savings on ex-display and discontinued sofas.
Ex-display sofas are sofas previously kept in showrooms, so they may have some signs of wear.
However, you can make great savings and it's a more sustainable choice than buying new.

Sales dates: While stocks last
We like: Sales on motorised 'lift and rise' sofas
We don’t like: The prices are still pretty high, even with the discount
Stokers Furniture is offering approximately 25% off Sherborne sofas and armchairs while stocks last.
Many of these sofas have 'lift and rise' functions, which raise and tilt the chair when you're sitting on it to make it easier to get up.
Not only are these chairs on sale: you can get the 20% VAT removed from the price if you are purchasing the chair as a medical device, Stokers can help you check if you are eligible.
It is a luxury brand, so don’t expect to pay less than £3,000 for a small sofa. But if you're looking for an investment piece, this sale is worth checking out.

We like: Extra spring savings on top of the existing sale
We don’t like: Only a small range of sofa beds on offer
DFS has knocked between £50 and £300 off a select range of its sofa beds in its spring sale.
Some of these sofa beds are also part of the extra spring savings event, meaning they're cheaper than they were previously.

You might think that the Christmas and Black Friday periods are a great time to buy a sofa, but this isn’t always the case. In fact, our analysis of 208 discounted products at eight major home and tech retailers found that only 2% of items were at their best price on Black Friday.
Check out our full report for more information.
Instead, try looking for discounts during these key sales periods:
Remember that a lot of stores will run sales for a large portion of the year, so it might be worth tracking an item you want for a few weeks – or months, if you can wait – to see what happens to the price.
The answer really depends on the brand.
In our customer survey of more than 4,000 Which? members, we found some cheaper brands that really shone, and some expensive brands that were rated poorly. Don’t just take the price or brand name as an indicator of quality.
The price also depends on the material you want, and any additional extras. You can get a great-quality fabric sofa for much cheaper than a great-quality leather sofa.
Finally, make sure that you consider the longevity of your sofa. In our survey, we found that readers with a faux leather sofa were significantly more likely to report that their sofa was damaged compared with other materials.
Buying a cheaper sofa might cost less initially, but if you want to keep it looking newer for longer (or you have kids and pets), it might be worth spending a little more.
You can read more about this investigation, and our tips for buying a durable sofa, in our guide to why you shouldn’t buy a faux leather sofa.
Most sofa shops offer a cooling-off period, during which you can return your sofa – provided you haven’t used it, and it’s still in the original packaging.
This means that if your sofa comes and you decide that you don’t like it, or it doesn’t fit in your room, you can return it.
These periods generally range between 14 and 30 days.
Check out our guide to cooling-off periods for more information.
Bear in mind that this doesn’t always apply to bespoke items or sales items (especially clearance sales), so check before you buy.
