We visited on a food tour and as always the clam chowder is phenomenal!
Service is fast but expect to queue.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 6, 2024
I have heard stories of having longlines to get their chow chowder.
We went at 5:30pm, probably 30 mins before they closed and there were no lines. I'm so glad we went at the time, and we got to try it.
It was delicious. Lots of clams and not too thick which we like. Not salty with perfect seasoning.
$13 for a large is expensive but worth a try.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 14, 2024
There are different locations throughout the Pike Place market. The line moved relatively quickly. Wish I could try the original flavor, but the vegan coconut & lime chowder was good. It kind of tasted like a green curry but without the spice. Each chowder comes with crackers and a slice of sourdough bread.

Stay away from the seafood in the pier. Tourist trap and very mediocre.
Come here for a solid west coast lobster roll, and the chowder. Fresh ingredients. Friendly service.
Don't sit at the Italian shop behind , the owner is a Guido and will come out and yell at you lolHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 728233446Aug 10, 2024Updated review3 check-ins
Pike Place Chowder
I visited Pike Place Chowder last year and was blown away by their award-winning chowders, so I had to stop by again during my stay. The line was long, but it was worth it. Since I was on my own this time, I got the large New England chowder (12.99), which came with a couple of bags of crackers and a sourdough roll. It was very filling and extremely tasty. Considering how popular they are, their prices are very reasonable.
I'll definitely stop by every time I'm in Seattle.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0Nov 6, 2022Previous reviewAmerica's #1 Chowder, whale seal about that
Line is always long for this place, and for obvious reasons. But don't be discouraged, the line moves extremely fast. Advertised as America's #1 Chowder, I'm here to solidify that statement. Originally I was only going to get the chowder, but I couldn't resist the lobster rolls. We got the lobster roll and 3 different types of Large 16oz (12.95) chowders.
We got the Connecticut-Style Lobster Roll Served Warm (59.95): Tender Maine lobster meat dipped in melted butter, topped with a hint of lemon juice and a dusting of seasoning and chives. Seafood Bisque: Delectable medley of Pacific Cod, Northwest Salmon, Oregon Bay Shrimp, flavored with fresh basil, and simmered in a creamy tomato-based broth. New England Clam Chowder: Meaty clams flavored with bacon, cream, and a secret blend of herbs and spices. Inducted into the Great Chowder Cook-Off Hall of Fame. And Seared Scallop Chowder: Sweet, tender scallops, seared in the kettle, served in a creamy broth, perfectly flavored with dill and lime juice.
The Lobster roll was delicious. Clearly fresh, and doused in just the right amount of butter and lemon juice. Each bite, full of lobster, felt luxurious. Best lobster roll I've had.
The chowders were affordable and yummy. My favorite was definitely the New England. Followed by the Seared Scallop and Salmon bisque. They were honestly all so delectable and savory, difficult to rank them. I could honestly taste the sea (in a good way) with these chowders. It was amazing, and I'll definitely be back when I'm in Seattle.
Yeah, I guess it is America's #1 chowder - Aug 6, 20241 check-in
I had their 4 samplers and the one i enjoyed the most was their famous New England Clam Chowder. I finished that thing in a heart beat. There's also something about their orange Fanta because it's crispy like McDonald's fountain drinks. The Manhattan chowder was good too. It's a herb-infused tomato broth that would have tasted better during colder weather, but it was around 88 degrees when I came in at 3pm.
Since this one of the touristy spots of Seattle, the area was packed and seating is limited. I got to chat with other tourists with shared tables and met some cool people at my time here at Pike. When I come back, I need to try their Maine-style lobster roll everyone is talking about!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 46146117Aug 31, 2024
I'd stick to their chowder over anything else. Their chowder has a good mix of spices and the consistency is just right - not so watery nor thick. Their sourdough bread is so fresh with a fluffy but also very chewy texture. I enjoyed their sourdough bread bowl over anything else I've had here. If you want to try multiple flavors, it's probably better to get a small or medium size of each.
I tried their Maine Lobster too, which was $35 for a quarter pound, but don't recommend it. I was pretty disappointed. Maybe it's because I've had Maine lobster in Maine, but I found Pike Place's to be really bland.
Despite there being a line, we didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes on a busy weekend. It's nice that they have staff helping you get a table, but you could get seated at a bad spot. We're a group of two and we got seated at a table with no shade so we had to eat under the sun during the middle of the day when the sun is the strongest. I saw the staff asking people to leave when they looked like they were done. I felt rushed to finish my food and felt like I couldn't really savor the taste because I needed to leave quickly (it also didn't help that we were sitting under the sun).Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 3113409Jul 24, 2024
What is a Seattle trip without visiting the infamous pike place market? First on my stop was pike place chowder. I was most excited to try this place. They are deep inside an alleyway but you can find them easily with their long lines. The lines move very fast, but it may be hard to find a spot to sit at.
They are known for their clam chowder, but I decided to try their seared scallop chowder instead. Boy was I glad I went with this. The scallop chowder is next level! It's so creamy and delicate, and tastes soo smooth too. They give you two pieces of bread and some crackers to dip in. The bread soaks up the chowder and carries over the rich flavor. I also added a Tabasco packet for a little kick. This chowder definitely lived up to the hypeHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 22, 2024
It's impossible to talk about must-eat places in Seattle without mentioning Pike Place Chowder! It might seem and sound like another run-of-the-mill tourist trap chowder place, but their award-winning chowder is so delicious!!
Located in Pike Place Market (of course), this joint can get awfully busy with customers and the interior is relatively small and claustrophobia-inducing with limited tables. There are some tables outside, but each time we've been here we've had to wait around for a table to free up or take our chowder to-go.
On our most recent visit we ordered the New England Clam Chowder + a 4-cup chowder sampler of Crab, Oyster, & Chorizo, Seafood Bisque, Smoked Salmon, and Seared Scallop chowders:
New England Clam Chowder (5/5): With the perfect consistency and viscosity in the thick white cream, this one tickles your tastebuds with hints of smoky bacon and herbal seasonings. The clams are fresh, bouncy, and not fishy. Taking a bite after adding a dash of Tabasco makes me jolt my head back and moan with euphoria!
Crab, Oyster, & Chorizo Chowder (4/5): This one has the heartiness and smokiness of chorizo intimately intertwined with the ocean flavors of the crab and oysters. Amount of crab meat was a bit lacking, however.
Seafood Bisque Chowder (4/5): This one has too prominent an herby flavor for my liking, but you do get a generous variety and amount of seafood in cod, salmon, and shrimp.
Smoked Salmon Chowder (5/5): This one tastes like eating an extravagant smoked salmon lox and cream cheese bagel but in chowder form! The capers add a nice salty and briny burst in each bite.
Seared Scallop Chowder (5/5): This one is loaded with tender scallops in each bite! The scallops are seared which adds that extra dimension of savory and charred notes, and the dill and lime juice finish it off with the perfect touch.
As good as the chowder is, a lady who was seated next to us fished out a long hair in her chowder. This kind of made us lose our appetite a bit, and after taking a closer look at the cleanliness of the kitchen we can't say we were that surprised...Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
