'Shehzada' faced stiff competition on its opening day from SRK's ‘Pathaan’ and Marvel's latest film 'Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania'.
Kartik Aaryan-starrer 'Shehzada', which was released on February 17, has had an average start at the box office.

The film faced stiff competition on its opening day from Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Pathaan’ which has been in the theatres for over three weeks and Marvel's latest release 'Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania'.

The makers of the film partnered with ticket booking platform BookMyShow to give the audience a 'Buy One, Get One' free offer on the purchase of movie tickets. Despite that, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that the Day 1 numbers of 'Shehzada' were 'disappointing'.

Adarsh said that the movie's performance at national cinema chains was ordinary and the response from the mass circuits was dull. However, he hopes that the MahaShivratri holiday will improve the Day 2 business. "Needs bigger jumps for a respectable weekend total," he added

On the other hand, film trade analyst Sumit Kadel said that 'Shehzada' was off to a decent start with Rs 7 crore collection on the opening day despite tough comeptition.

Another film trade analyst Rohit Jaiswal also felt that the Kartik Aaryan-starrer has had a 'respectable start'. He also said that if the film would have been a solo release, it would have had a double-digit opening.

Helmed by Rohit Dhawan, 'Shehzada' also stars Kriti Sanon, Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala and Ronit Roy. It is an official Hindi remake of the Telugu film 'Ala Vaikunthapurramloo', which starred actor Allu Arjun in the lead role.

'Shehzada' was earlier supposed to release on February 10, but the makers delayed the release to February 17, 'out of respect' for SRK's release.

Meanwhile, 'Pathaan' is not showing any signs of slowing down. Adarsh said that the 'Pathaan Day' strategy - where the makers reduced the ticket prices to flat Rs 110 for one day (February 17), has yielded positive results for the movie.

'Pathaan' is currently at a collection of more than Rs 508 crore (nett) in the domestic market. Kadel said that the Hindi version of 'Pathaan' will break the lifetime collection of 'Baahubali: The Conclusion' (Hindi) of Rs 510 crore (nett)

The spy thriller marks King Khan's return to the big screen after five-long years.

Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film also features John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana in pivotal roles.

The movie revolves around a spy (played by SRK) who comes out of exile to stop the terrorist group Outfit X, headed by Jim (played by Abraham) from launching a debilitating attack on India.

'Pathaan' is the fourth instalment of film-maker Aditya Chopra's ambitious spy universe. It started with Salman Khan's 'Tiger' franchise - 'Ek Tha Tiger' (2012) and 'Tiger Zinda Hai' (2017). Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff's 'War' was released in 2019.

After Salman's cameo in 'Pathaan', SRK will also make an appearance in 'Tiger 3'.
