As India continues its democratic stride with the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Google has marked the second phase of this monumental event with a symbolic gesture on its homepage. On Friday, Google unveiled a doodle featuring an inked index finger, symbolizing the act of voting, a cornerstone of Indian democracy.

    Google doodle Encourages Democratic Participation

This doodle, which is similar to what Google displayed during the first phase of voting, serves as a reminder of the ongoing electoral process and encourages citizens to participate actively.

The second phase of polling, spanning 88 constituencies across 13 states and Union Territories, commenced at 7 am today, engaging millions of voters. Notable personalities, including BJP veteran Vasundhara Raje, philanthropist Sudha Murty and Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, actor Prakash Raj, Team India coach Rahul Dravid, and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, exercised their voting rights.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the significance of each vote, particularly urging young and female voters to turn out in record numbers. "Your vote is your voice for a stronger, secure, and prosperous nation," he stated.

Google's Doodle, depicting the inked finger, is a continuation of its support for democratic participation. It aims to inform users about the election updates when clicked, directing them to relevant search results.

Diverse Turnout In 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

The Election Commission of India reported a total of 1,210 candidates in contention for this phase, reflecting the diversity of voices in India's democratic process. With over 8.08 crore male and 7.8 crore female voters, alongside first-time voters and third-gender electors, this election represents a robust exercise in democratic participation.

To ensure inclusivity and efficiency, the Election Commission implemented various measures such as webcasting in over 50% of polling stations, deployment of micro-observers, and designated model polling stations with local themes. Additionally, stations managed by women and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) underscored the commitment to an inclusive electoral experience.

The Google Doodle not only celebrates democracy but also serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to engage in the democratic process actively. As voting concludes at 6 pm today, citizens across the nation have an opportunity to shape the future of the country through their votes.
