Hollywood fame Julia Roberts recently opened up about a lot of things during her interview with popular talk show host Gayle King, where the actress revealed that late Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife, Coretta, paid her hospital bill.

During the interview, the 55-year-old ‘Pretty Woman’ said that her parents couldn’t afford to pay the hospital bill for her birth, so the couple made the sweet gesture and paid the fee themselves.

“The King family paid for my hospital bill. My parents couldn't pay for my hospital bill,” Roberts told King after complimenting the host for carrying a “good research” on her.

The actress further revealed how the two families became friends. Roberts told King that her mother and father befriended the Nobel Peace Prize-winner and his wife while her parents were living in Atlanta and running a theatre school.

“My parents had a theatre group in Atlanta called the 'Actors and writers' workshop', and one day, Coretta Scott King called my mother and asked if her kids could be part of the school because they were having a hard time finding a place that would accept her kids. My mom was like 'sure, come over'. So they all became friends and they helped us out of a jam,” the actress recalled.

Adding to it, the host of the show, King, hailed Julia's parents' decision as "extraordinary" because people didn't see "little black children interacting with little white kids in acting school" at the time.

According to several media reports, back in 1965, a Ku Klux Klan member blew up a car outside one of Julia's parent's Betty and Walter Roberts' plays for bringing King Jr's daughter Yolanda on board and casting her in a role where she kissed a white actor.

Julia celebrated her 55th birthday on October 28 by sharing a selfie of herself on Instagram sipping a mug of coffee surrounded by pink and gold balloons.
