    Synopsis

Netizens have called out the entrepreneur for having "inhumane" job expectations.

Writing about the responsibilities the role (Chief of Staff) would entail, Goyal stated that “this is a 24x7 job, and the traditional employee mindset of ‘work-life balance’ won’t work." This has not gone down well with his LinkedIn followers.
In the season of layoffs, any kind of job opening is usually met with unbridled enthusiasm and followed by a flurry of applications.

So when Deepinder Goyal, the CEO of popular food delivery app Zomato, announced on his LinkedIn handle that not one but 800 positions were up for grabs, this should have been an occasion for joy and celebration. However, the entrepreneur ended up getting heavily trolled. Here’s why:

In his enthusiasm to write exciting descriptions for each job role, Goyal went way overboard for the job of Chief of Staff. Writing about the responsibilities the role would entail, he stated that “this is a 24x7 job, and the traditional employee mindset of ‘work-life balance’ won’t work."

This description was his undoing. Although the post did gain over 5000 likes, netizens were far from amused. Many left scathing remarks in the comment section.

A LinkedIn user, who is also a psychologist wrote, “Are you serious? The very fact that you're openly marketing this toxic JD on your LinkedIn feed shows exactly what's wrong with your company and why people shouldn't be applying there. " "Treat employees like humans, not slaves,” she admonished.

Another pointed out that this inhumane requirement will leave many applicants, especially those who are parents ineligible. Another left a wry comment that while the job position demands the candidate be ready to make the job their number one priority, is the CEO ready to give a worthy compensation? “This is a 24x7 job and bla bla bla"
Do we get / employees get the same benefit as the CEO? And the same pay scale? No? Then yeah, that won't work, “ stated another.

Another LinkedIn user, a seasoned HR professional, did not hold back any punches. “Why don't you hire a donkey, that will work 24*7 without any work life balance?” he wrote.

Sadly, the lack of adequate work-life balance is either ignored or covered up with ornamental phrases such as ‘work-life integration’ or ‘hustle life’. According to a 2019 report by the International Labour Organization, Indian employees work 48 hours a week on average. This makes our country the most workaholic of all Asian nations.

In a culture where being ‘married to your job’ is not only normalised but celebrated, we will continue to come across such unintentionally hilarious job descriptions in the future as well.
