State elections witness surge in women candidates, Mizoram's female representation lags

    Synopsis

Recent state elections in Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana showcased the highest proportion of women candidates, yet the numbers remain insufficient. Female winners in these states remain significantly low, both in absolute count and proportion compared to total winners. Mizoram, notably, hasn't elected a woman to its assembly since 1987, reflecting the persisting challenge of inadequate female representation in state legislatures.
