    First candidate drops out of Iran presidential election, due to take place Friday amid voter apathy

    United Arab Emirates - A candidate in Iran's presidential election withdrew from the race late Wednesday, becoming the first to back out in order for hard-liners to coalesce around a unity candidate in the vote to replace the late President Ebrahim Raisi.

    Nagaland local body elections see 80% voter turnout despite ENPO boycott call

    State Election Commissioner (SEC) T. John Longkumer reported that no votes were cast in the six eastern Nagaland districts due to the boycott call by the ENPO. Longkumer stated, "Earlier 79 candidates from these six districts filed their nominations, but they later withdrew their candidatures. No candidate is contesting in the town councils in eastern Nagaland, where ENPO gave a vote boycott call in support of their statehood demand for 'Frontier Nagaland Territory'."

    Nearly 90% Lok Sabha candidates lost security deposits in J&K

    In the Jammu and Kashmir Lok Sabha elections, 89 out of 100 candidates lost their security deposits, indicating a decisive voter mandate. Independent Sheikh Abdul Rashid won in Baramulla, while major winners included Aga Roohullah Mehdi and BJP's Jugal Kishore. Ghulam Nabi Azad's party struggled, with none of its candidates saving their deposits. Only Mehbooba Mufti succeeded among seven women candidates.

    Odisha: Victory for four women candidates in Lok Sabha elections

    Four women candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party won in the Lok Sabha elections in Odisha, with Aparajita Sarangi and Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo emerging victorious. Sarangi retained the Bhubaneswar seat, while Singh Deo won in Bolangir, and Malvika Devi in Kalahandi. Anita Subhadarshini also secured a victory in Aska.

    Seven out of 17 women candidates win LS polls in Maharashtra; four belong to Congress

    ​​Among the prominent winners is Supriya Sule, who won the Baramati seat for the fourth successive time by defeating Sunetra Pawar, the wife of her cousin and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The fight for the Baramati seat was being keenly watched as it was for the first time that two members of the Pawar family were fighting the polls against each other in their home turf.
