Meanwhile, the oil and gas and FMCG sectors saw some selling pressure. A Commerce Department report revealed capital goods orders increasing 0.7% in May, while the European STOXX 600 index fell 0.05% after gains in luxury and financial firms while being countered by hawkish commentary from ECB President Christine Lagarde.
Rupee falls 1 paisa to 82.10 against US dollar
The rupee opened at 82.13 against the US dollar and fell 1 paisa to trade at 82.10 in early trade on Wednesday, due to an upswing in the greenback and FIIs withdrawing foreign funds from domestic equities. An increase in crude oil prices also pushed down the Indian currency. Forex traders believe the rupee may slip below 82.04, which could make 81.9 vulnerable again. Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex climbed 185.17 points to trade at 63,512.87, while the NSE Nifty advanced 38.75 points to trade at 18,855.45.
Rupee rises 15 paise to close at 82.10 against US dollar
The Indian rupee rose by 15 paise to settle at 82.10 against the US dollar on Wednesday, due to strong macroeconomic fundamentals, FII inflows, and a weak greenback against major rivals worldwide. The local unit opened at 82.28 against the US currency and witnessed an intra-day high of 82.08 and a low of 82.32. A weak US dollar and increasing expectations of a pause in rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve, along with positive domestic equities, supported the rupee. However, a positive tone in crude oil prices could cap a sharp upside.
