The complex aims to be net-zero with facilities for composting, sewage treatment, solar energy, and EV charging. Additionally, Gen Pande inaugurated a 400-bed state-of-the-art barrack completed in one year. The eight-storey HQ building aligns with the Central Vista redevelopment, costing approximately Rs 760 crore.
Parliament complex renovation & paperless MP registration progressing
Preparations for the 18th Lok Sabha include landscaping the Parliament complex and implementing a paperless registration system for newly elected MPs. The Central Vista project is renovating the entire parliament building to create a more interconnected complex, overseen by the CPWD. Newly elected MPs will register at the Parliament House Annexe, with arrangements for transit accommodation at Western Court and state Bhavans. Residences for MPs will be allocated using an automated mechanism.

The housing and urban affairs ministry will soon hire a consultant to advise it on the mode of transportation to be adopted. "Technical evaluation is under process and a consultant would be selected soon," the official said. Central Vista refers to the main administrative area of India, stretching from the Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate, including Parliament House and North and South Blocks, among others.

According to the blueprint, which ET has seen, employees working in Udyog Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, Shastri Bhawan and Krishi Bhawan will move to the three new secretariat buildings by the end of 2024 or early 2025, paving the way for the demotion of the old structures constructed between 1956 and 1968. Four central secretariat buildings (No. 4, 5, 6, 7) with new features and a common passage running through them will come up in the space where the bhawans stood.
