      Govt issues guidelines to evaluate reasonableness of non-urea fertiliser prices

      For importers of P&K fertilisers, including di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of Potash (MoP), the profit margin allowed is 8 per cent. It has permitted 10 per cent profit for manufacturers and 12 per cent for integrated manufacturers. Unreasonable profit earned by the company will have to be refunded, or else it will be recovered by the ministry or adjusted with the future subsidy payment, as per the guidelines.

      The Fertiliser Association of India (FAI) pointed out a recent rise in global Di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) prices, suggesting a need for increased government subsidies or retail prices if the elevated international rates persist. Presently, fertiliser companies are selling DAP at Rs 1,350 per 50-kilogram bag. FAI Chairman N Suresh Krishnan noted that global DAP prices rose from USD 440 per tonne in July to USD 595 per tonne.

      IFFCO and CIL to manufacture Nano DAP for 3 years

      The product is a nano-sized version of the most commonly used fertiliser, Di Ammonium Phosphate (DAP). Preliminary field trials have shown that the product can be used to save granular DAP conventionally applied. Nano DAP is the second product from the nano stable after nano urea that is being promoted in a big way by the government to cut subsidies and promote efficient use of plant chemicals.

      In the current fiscal, India imported 34.19 lakh tonnes of fertilisers, including urea and DAP, from Russia. This is the highest in the last three years, despite the Russia-Ukraine war. The imports have risen notwithstanding the war, due to increased demand for these fertilisers in the country. The government has taken several measures to boost the domestic urea production, but still relies on imports to meet the gap.

      On Friday, IFFCO managing director U S Awasthi tweeted that the IFFCO Nano DAP has been approved by the ministry of agriculture and notified in the Fertiliser Control Order (FCO) based on it's encouraging results. "IFFCO will manufacture #NanoDAP; a game changer for Indian agriculture & economy," he tweeted.
