Chaubey had moved an application to the high court seeking withdrawal of his petition challenging the 2021 election. The EC's counsel placed the tentative schedule before a vacation bench of Justices P K Mishra and K V Viswanathan in a sealed cover.

      The fortunes of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have reportedly declined as the party candidates who participated in Karnataka’s assembly elections lost overwhelmingly. Senior party leader Brijesh Kalappa won just 0.47% of the vote, losing even to the candidate from Uttama Prajaakeeya Party who finished second last. The seat was won by Uday B. Garudachar of the BJP who defeated his Congress rival R.V. Devraj by a considerable margin. AAP candidates Sujata P. Chavan secured 988 votes while the party's Prabhuswamy B.S. got just 1,834 votes.

      Bypolls: Over 90% voting in Meghalaya's Sohiong, Jalandhar LS seat records 50% voter turnout

      Bypolls held in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Odisha, and Meghalaya on May 6 saw brisk voting across all states. While Jalandhar and Suar and Chhanbey Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh recorded 50.27%, 41.78%, and 39.51% polling, respectively, the Jharsuguda Assembly segment in Odisha witnessed a voter turnout of 68.12%, and the Sohiong Assembly seat in Meghalaya recorded the highest voter turnout at 91.56%. The counting of votes for all the bypolls will be done on May 13.
