    Navaratri Kanjak or Kanya puja 2023: How to perform Kanjak puja, timings, significance, rituals

    Durga Ashtami and Ram Navami, the eighth and ninth days of Navratri, are celebrated by honoring young girls or kanyas. Kanjak, also known as Kanya Pujan, is performed to worship these girls as manifestations of Goddess Durga. The girls are offered tender coconut, Halwa-Puri, and Chane as prasad. Kanjak is performed twice a year, on the last day of Navratri.

    Maha Ashtami 2022: According to Hindu mythology, Mahagauri attained "Gaur Varna" by rigorous penance. The name 'Mahagauri' means the one extremely bright. She mounts on the ox.​​ On this day, people also perform Kanya/Kumari Puja or Kanjak. Devotees invite small kids at home to offer food and worship them as Devi and Launguras. The day is also observed as Durgashtami by those who observe Durga Puja. ​
