    First LCA Mark1A fighter aircraft squadron to be deployed at Nal air base

    The Indian Air Force is planning to raise the first squadron of the indigenous LCA Mark1A fighter aircraft squadron at the Nal air base in Bikaner district of Rajasthan near the Pakistan front. The first LCA Mark1A aircraft is expected to be delivered to the Indian Air Force by February-March time frame by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

    Sunset for MiG 21s as squadron retires fighters after 57 years

    The IAF's Uttarlai (Rajasthan) based 4 Squadron has been operating various types of MiG 21 for 57 years and was one of the last three remaining units operating the Bison version of the aircraft. The two remaining MiG 21 Bison squadrons are expected to phase out the fighters by 2025.

    IAF temporarily grounds MiG-21 squadrons

    Three persons were killed after the MiG-21 aircraft crashed into a house in Hanumangarh shortly after it took off for a routine training sortie from the Air Force Station at Suratgarh on May 8. The crash of the jet had again put the spotlight on the ageing fleet of Soviet-origin aircraft which were involved in around 400 accidents since their first induction in the early 1960s.

    IAF working on phasing out remaining three squadrons of MiG-21 jets

    The Indian Air Force (IAF) plans to phase out its Soviet-era aircraft fleet, including the MiG-21 and Mig-29 fighter planes, as part of its modernisation drive. The IAF has three MiG-21 squadrons with a total of around 50 aircraft, which have been involved in around 400 crashes since their first induction in the early 1960s.
