First LCA Mark1A fighter aircraft squadron to be deployed at Nal air base
The Indian Air Force is planning to raise the first squadron of the indigenous LCA Mark1A fighter aircraft squadron at the Nal air base in Bikaner district of Rajasthan near the Pakistan front. The first LCA Mark1A aircraft is expected to be delivered to the Indian Air Force by February-March time frame by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

IAF temporarily grounds MiG-21 squadrons
Three persons were killed after the MiG-21 aircraft crashed into a house in Hanumangarh shortly after it took off for a routine training sortie from the Air Force Station at Suratgarh on May 8. The crash of the jet had again put the spotlight on the ageing fleet of Soviet-origin aircraft which were involved in around 400 accidents since their first induction in the early 1960s.

Need LCA delivery and medium fighters on time, says IAF
The air force has been wanting to proceed with the medium role acquisition under a model where the planes would be manufactured in India with partnership of a foreign equipment manufacturer. The French Rafale, which is already in service with the air force, is the leading contender for this requirement. Clearances to proceed with the model are awaited.
