    Gangster Chhota Shakeel's brother-in-law, Arif Abubakar Shaikh dies of heart attack in Mumbai hospital

    Arif Abubakar Shaikh, known as Arif Bhaijaan, passed away at Mumbai's J J Hospital. He was the brother-in-law of fugitive gangster Chhota Shakeel and was accused in a terror-funding case involving the Dawood gang. Shaikh, a businessman, was arrested by the NIA in May 2023 and was undergoing treatment at the hospital when he died. The NIA had attached his property in Thane district in July 2023. Shaikh and his brother were accused of extorting money for terrorist activities and collaborating with international terrorist organizations.

    Over 400 terrorist, naxal properties attached by NIA since 2019

    NIA attached 403 properties since 2019, mainly from terrorists, Naxals, and separatists. Ranchi branch attached 206 properties in Bihar and Jharkhand. Jammu branch seized 100 properties, Chandigarh 33 from separatists. Confiscated properties include Khalistani leader's. PFI workers' properties also seized in multiple locations across India.

    NIA attaches several properties in Sandhu murder case

    The agency had said that its investigation had revealed that Harbhinder Singh, along with an associate, had helped an accused, Inderjit Singh, in the reconnaissance of Sandhu's residence with the purpose of killing him as part of a conspiracy by KLF cadres based in India and abroad.

    NIA raids 30 locations across 5 states in terrorist-gangster nexus probe

    The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at 30 locations across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chandigarh in connection with a terrorist-gangster nexus case. The raids, which began on Tuesday morning, targeted suspects linked to the case based on specific inputs gathered during earlier interrogations. The NIA aims to disrupt the nexus between terrorists, gangsters, and drug smugglers. Earlier this year, the NIA attached properties owned by members of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's syndicate, identified as 'proceeds of terrorism'.

      The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at 32 locations in Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab to disrupt the terrorist-gangster-drug smuggler nexus. Focusing on gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's organized terror-crime syndicate, the raids came after the recent attachment of four properties owned by Bishnoi. The properties were deemed 'proceeds of terrorism,' with links to terror conspiracies and serious crimes. The NIA's investigations have revealed the syndicate's spread across states, involvement in high-profile crimes, and connections to terror conspiracies orchestrated from abroad.

      NIA attaches four properties of Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate members in 3 states

      NIA has attached our properties owned by members of the Lawrence Bishnoi organised terror-crime syndicate in three states. The NIA had registered a case against the organised crime syndicate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his associates under the UA(P)A in August 2022. The official said investigations have also revealed that many terror conspiracies were masterminded from abroad, including Pakistan and Canada, or by leaders of organised terror syndicates operating from prisons in India.

      NIA scaled up crackdown on terror networks in 2023

      The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in India has increased its crackdown on terror networks, conducting over 1000 raids and arresting 625 accused across the country. The agency achieved a 94.70% conviction rate, with 74 accused sentenced in various cases. The agency also conducted multiple raids to identify suspects behind attacks on High Commissions of India in Ottawa and London and the Consulate General in San Francisco.

      The agency said the investigations further led the NIA to the hideouts set up across Haryana and Punjab, which were being used to harbour the gangsters and store weapons. Besides Bishnoi and Brar, other chargesheeted accused have been identified as Jagdeep Singh, Sachin Thapan, Anmol Bishnoi, Vikramjeet Singh, Sandeep Jhanjariya, Virender Pratap Singh, Joginder Singh, Rajesh Kumar, Raj Kumar, Anil, Naresh Yadav and Shahbaaz Ansari.
