Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko became the first person to spend 1,000 days in space. He achieved the milestone on Tuesday during his fifth journey to the International Space Station since 2008. he surpassed the previous record of 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes, and 48 seconds set by Russian Gennady Padalka in 2015. Kononenko's mission is scheduled to end on September 23.

Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko has set a new world record for the most cumulative time spent in space, surpassing Gennady Padalka. Kononenko has now spent over 878 days and 12 hours in space. He has made five journeys to the International Space Station since 2008. Kononenko's current trip, which began in September 2023, is expected to make him the first person to accumulate 1,000 days in space. The International Space Station continues to be an area of cooperation between the United States and Russia.
