    To help Airbus, Macron pressed Canada to ease Russia titanium sanctions

    French President Emmanuel Macron personally intervened to persuade Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to give Airbus and other aerospace firms relief from sanctions on Russian titanium. The request was made during a phone call between the two leaders in March, weeks after Canada broke ranks with allies and slapped sanctions on the strategic metal. Macron had made a "significant effort" to convince Trudeau to grant an exemption for European companies. At least one other European government also weighed in to support the lobbying effort. Ottawa initially stood firm but within days modified its policy by granting Airbus and others waivers.

    The United States has shown an understanding of the importance of the Chabahar Port operations for continued humanitarian supplies to Afghanistan and to provide Afghanistan with economic alternatives, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday, reminding Washington of its own position on the project.

    White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby clarified that funds from a US sanction waiver allowing Iraq to purchase energy from Iran will not go to the Iranian government. The waiver, renewed every three months, aims to help Iraq transition away from Iranian energy dependency. Kirby emphasized that the money goes to vendors providing humanitarian assistance to the Iranian people, not to the Iranian government. The US State Department reiterated that no money has been permitted to enter Iran under these waivers.

    Govt grants sanction to prosecute joint drugs controller S Eswara Reddy in Biocon Biologics bribery case

    Eswara Reddy along with Animesh Kumar (Assistant Drugs Inspector), Biocon Biologics' Associate Vice President L Praveen Kumar, and Synergy Network India Private Limited director Dinesh Dua, were arrested last year in the bribery case allegedly to waive the Phase 3 clinical trial of 'Insulin Aspart' injection, a product developed by the company to manage Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. However, Biocon Biologics, a subsidiary of Kiran Mazumdar Shaw-led Biocon, denied the allegations of bribery.
