CHIKKAMAGALURU: The state's probe agency, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), will investigate the alleged assault on an advocate for not wearing a helmet in Chikkamagaluru town on November 30. Western Range deputy inspector general of police Chandragupta made the announcement here on Sunday.
The district police had suspended six police personnel in connection with the incident, which triggered complaints and counter-complaints between cops and advocates, with the Karnataka high court seeking status of the probe.

Overnight protest by Chikkamagaluru cops against suspension of six colleagues was called off early Sunday after district police booked cases against advocates and promised action as per the law.
The assaulted advocate, Preetham, and police had an altercation on Thursday when cops stopped him for riding without a helmet.
It is alleged police took the advocate to the station and assaulted him. The advocate was hospitalized, while advocates took to streets seeking action.
On Saturday, the family members of the suspended police officers staged a protest, claiming Preetham also assaulted police. In the evening, some cops joined in the agitation. Despite intervention by Western Range deputy inspector general of police Chandragupta and SP Amathe, police continued to protest.
The protesters withdrew the night-long agitation after two cases were booked against 15 advocates on charges of trying to obstruct police personnel from discharging their duty. Two cops filed the two separate cases following which two FIRs were registered, police said.
