Several residents of Nayapalli area participated in a blood donation camp on Sunday to help the victims of the Bahanaga triple-train accident as well as thalassaemia and cancer patients.

BHUBANESWAR: Several residents of Nayapalli area participated in a blood donation camp on Sunday to help the victims of the Bahanaga triple-train accident as well as thalassaemia and cancer patients.
The event was organised by TOI in collaboration with Capital Hospital and Red Swastik and with the support of Nayapalli Community Care Association.
“This initiative will help people who were affected and traumatised by the Balasore train accident.With our help, we can bring brightness to a home in need of blood,” said Manasi Sundaray, corporator of ward no. 25 of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.
Around 48 people donated blood at the camp, which started at 9 am and continued till 1.30 pm. The camp organisers adhered to strict safety protocols and health guidelines.
“Before donating blood, the donor should consume a healthy meal and sufficient water. We assured the donors their blood pressure is under control and they are healthy,” said Kajal Nayak, a doctor.
The Nayapalli community centre was transformed into separate sections for registration, examination and blood donation process. Trained medical staff and volunteers were present throughout the event to provide guidance and support to the donors. “I am really happy to see people come together on a Sunday for such a noble initiative,” said
Arun Kumar Rath, president, Nayapalli Community Care Association, while inaugurating the event.
“Blood collected today will contribute to saving lives of many people. We encourage people to donate blood because in the future if they or their family member require blood, it would be available easily because of the donations today,” said Debasish Pattnaik, secretary of the association and Red Swastik. The organisation also helped underprivileged amputees by providing them prosthetics for free and are planning to organise a workshop in the future.
The donors were provided refreshment after they had donated blood. They were also awarded certificates for their noble act.
