Odisha: 23-year-old man dies of ‘mystery fever’

BERHAMPUR: A 23-year-old man has died and 50 others are suffering owing to “mysterious fever” in Balarampur village along the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border in Ganjam district’s Patrapur block.
A Tarakeshu, a BTech student of the village, was reportedly undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ichapuram, Andhra Pradesh, for some days. After his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to a private hospital at Srikakulam where he died on August 13.
Of the total patients, 18 are undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here. Others with mild fever are being treated at home. “The patients tested negative for Covid-19 and malaria,” said chief district medical officer (CDMO) Uma Shankar Mishra. The CDMO, however, denied any report of death in the village.
