Primary schools to get a facelift in Kandhamal dist

BERHAMPUR: Primary schools in the tribal-dominated district of Kandhamal are set to get a facelift with the support of Power Finance Corporation (PFC), a central government undertaking. The PFC will provide Rs 6 crore under the provision of corporate social responsibility to the district administration for renovation and improvement of educational and allied infrastructures of the schools.
Recently, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the central public sector undertaking with the Integrated Tribal Development Agency, Baliguda, in this regard recently in the presence of Kandhamal MP Achyuta Samanta and district collector Ashish Ishwar Patil. “We have selected 20 primary schools across the district for the transformation,” Ishwar said, adding, “The transformation of primary schools will be held in the line with the high school transformation under the 5T initiative where Rs 20 lakh-Rs 35 lakh would be spent in the initiative.”
Sources said that as per the plan, renovation and modernization of the schools, smart classrooms, modern science laboratories, computer laboratories, a toilet complex, renovation of the old school buildings and additional classrooms would be constructed in the proposed primary schools. The boundary walls of some of the schools will also be constructed under the initiative. Ishwar said the transformation of the primary schools would be completed within a year. As many as 215 high schools in the district have been transformed in the district under the 5T initiative so far.
