Chandigarh: Private schools in Chandigarh have agreed to accept monthly
fees instead of a quarterly amount. Also, schools have been permitted to call 33% of the staff to
school to run online classes. The development followed a meeting between Independent Schools' Association (ISA) and senior officials of the UT
education department on Friday.
The meeting was attended by education secretary Arun Gupta, director, school education Rubinderjeet Singh Brar and ISA members A B S Sidhu,
Gurpreet Bakshi and R D Singh.A meeting was held to discuss the issue of fee collection on the directions of
Punjab and Haryana High Court. The ISA filed a petition in court challenging the UT education department's order prohibiting schools' from forcing parents to pay fees.
ISA president H S Mamik said, "Our request was now that lockdown 4 will be implemented from May 17, it would be appropriate to withdraw the order of fees deferment as things are returning to near normal. He agreed that we could call our staff to school to run online classes." Director, school education said, "The matter is subjudice."
