Aizawl: Following his pivotal role in guiding Mumbai City FC to ISL victory, the immediate priority for Mizoram-born winger Lallianzuala Chhangte was returning home to Aizawl, his state capital, to sit for his Bachelor of Arts (BA) examinations.
Despite being hailed as one of India's most promising football talents and enjoying the financial rewards that accompany such stature at just 26 years old, Chhangte's commitment to his education remains steadfast.
While his teammates reveled in the glory with fans in Mumbai, Chhangte prioritised his studies, underlining his dedication to both his sporting and academic pursuits.
After his team's triumphant final match, where they clinched the ISL championship on May 4, Chhangte promptly booked a flight to Aizawl on Sunday. On Monday (May 6), he dedicated himself to sitting for his BA second semester external exams, missing the celebrations in Mumbai with fans.
"Truth be told, I was sorely tempted to join my fans in Mumbai. However, I prioritise my education above all," he said.
For Chhangte, the pursuit of excellence extends beyond the football field. "Regardless of the career path one chooses, education plays a crucial role in shaping an individual's character, in addition to imparting knowledge," he emphasised, echoing the sentiments of his own upbringing in a household where education was valued. His father was a teacher.

Juggling the demands of professional sports with academic commitments requires unwavering determination, a trait Chhangte possesses in abundance.
"I always make it a point to take out time to study amid my hectic sports schedule," he said.
While some may question the necessity of formal education for a successful football career, Chhangte sees it as integral to his holistic development. His decision to pursue education alongside his sporting endeavors serves as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring athletes nationwide. One of his teachers expressed pride in his student's commitment to education.
"As he articulated, he comprehends the significance of education in fostering holistic human development. May he serve as a role model for all young individuals," the teacher said.
In a world where sporting success often overshadows other pursuits, Lallianzuala Chhangte's story serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of balance and lifelong learning.
