IIT-Guwahati seals joint PhDs with 4 foreign universities

GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) has taken a big leap during pandemic years by finalising joint PhDs with Heidelberg University of Germany, Curtin University of Australia, National Institute of Material Science (NIMS) Japan and Shantou University, China.IIT-Guwahati currently has 29 foreign students enrolled in the institute from nine countries — the UK, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Syria, Ethiopia, Sudan, Cameroon and Seychelles.

GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) has taken a big leap during pandemic years by finalising joint PhDs with Heidelberg University of Germany, Curtin University of Australia, National Institute of Material Science (NIMS) Japan and Shantou University, China.
IIT-Guwahati currently has 29 foreign students enrolled in the institute from nine countries — the UK, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Syria, Ethiopia, Sudan, Cameroon and Seychelles.
A Joint Degree PhD Programme (JDP) student who gets PhD from IIT Guwahati and a partner institute abroad has to spend at least 12 months in each institute during the programme. The institute has invited more foreign students for admission in courses across all disciplines of engineering, sciences, humanities and social sciences, design, healthcare and medicine, management and interdisciplinary areas as the campus buzz has returned after deadly waves of Covid pandemic in the country.
“With rapid internationalisation of the education sector, IIT Guwahati shall gain a strong foothold, across higher education institutes, worldwide and can play an active role in mitigating challenges associated with global issues. Students on the other hand will gain by obtaining the quality education that we offer here at IIT Guwahati and get an opportunity to pursue research in a world-class environment,” IIT-G director Prof. TG Sitharam, said.
